(TFCC) Tswelopele Frail Care Centre

Project: Nissan NP200 2019 demo.

Contributed R100 000.

TFCC was established on 01 April 2005 resulting from the discontinuation of services that were rendered by Emseni Chronic Care Unit which was part of Rhema Service Foundation.

The discontinuation of services by Emseni Chronic Care Unit caused all its employees (Human Resource) to be retrenched and the building was sold to a private property developer.

This process also left Eighty-nine (89) beneficiaries 'homeless' as they could not be accommodated at other institutions.

Few of the retrenched staff members identified an opportunity and took upon themselves to turn the situation around especially for the 89 stranded and destitute beneficiaries. They applied for the NPO and registered the services as Tswelopele Frail Care Centre.

Hot Slots bought the organization a Nissan NP200 2019 demo R100 000 so that they can continue to support and care for the elderly and homeless.

Speruperu is an informal settlement, the community members comprise of those whose parents worked in farms, who are extremely poor, vulnerable, helpless, isolated without hope. As a mining area, Speruperu experienced an influx of mineworkers and as the mines keep retrenching workers some never went back to their original places of residence with the hope of accessing other work opportunities.

Because of the abovementioned, living conditions, there is an increase in the number of HIV/AIDS infections in this area resulting from prostitution as a means of survival, among other maladaptive behaviors.  Schoolchildren are vulnerable to drug abuse and delinquent tendencies such as bunking school and housebreaking.

The area lack resources such as electricity and communal taps are used as a source of water supply with one tap catering for ten family units. There are no schools, police stations and recreational facilities. A nearby school is approximately 10 km and falls outside the area in Poortjie.
